The Investiture Controversy
The Investiture
Controversy was started by the rivalry of Gregory VII(the king) and
Henry IV(the pope), about the authority of who can appoint
bishops in 1876, Gregory tried to invade the Henry but died in the process, at
the end the king did not get to choose who gets to be bishop, the church was
still under the rule of the king, Thomas Bucket was a friend of the king of
England(Henry II) , so when the Archbishop died he was given the title
of Archbishop, the only thing is that Thomas was very connected to his role, so
when the king(Henry II) invaded he protected the church no matter what, Thomas
didn’t die and that that the church and the king got into a peaceful agreement,
unfortunately Henry II called some guards to assassinate him, later he admitted
that he did it
